Meet Nina -

Nina (pictured on the far left) first came into contact with StandUp For Kids in August of 2018 at the Artesian Well during one of our musical outreach events. Moving to Olympia from Michigan after a painful history of physical and emotional abuse from her foster mother, she found herself faced with more unsafe living situations and challenges, eventually turning to the streets in an attempt to escape.

Nina, now 22 has obtained both her Washington State ID and Social Security Card, found a stable paying job, and is currently in search of a second job so she can get into an apartment of her own. Nina and her trusty canine pal, check in with us monthly, and we love hearing about all of her progress.

"I realize I have to do this for me. I am not able to care for others and not care for myself" Nina is a kind, strong woman who has endless amounts of determination and strength to continue making positive strides. We deeply appreciate the community support from you all that allows us to help youth like Nina get back on their feet. We are rooting for you Nina!

This month we want to give a big thank you to all of our incredible donors! Our local Thurston County chapter is completely volunteer-run and sustained, and we would not be able to serve and encourage our youth without the amazing support from this community.

Thank you to Mixx 96.1 for always providing us a space to conduct our youth events and volunteer training, and to Mama Dee and her team for warmly welcoming us to join them every Saturday to serve and reach out to our homeless community.

Additional gratitude to:

Fred Meyer, Safeway, Evergreen Community Church, Union Gospel Mission, Value Village, Providence Medical Center, Thurston County Food Bank, Willamette Dental, and all of our monthly donors for your donations!

We are extremely appreciative of the generosity, love, and support from you all, and truly could not make our mission happen without you!

Come visit us at the Olympia Farmers Market!

This month, we conducted our first table set-up at the Farmers Market to raise awareness about StandUp For Kids and engage with the community. Just in one Saturday, we received many gently used clothing items, over $100 in monetary donations, and had some wonderful conversations!  Thank you to everyone who stopped by to talk to us and/or were able to give.

Our upcoming table dates will be on Sunday, June 23rd and Saturday, August 31st. If you or anyone you know has extra clothing items, hygiene supplies, loose change to get rid of, or just wants to come chat, find us next month at our signature purple table!

We have so many great things going on that wouldn’t be possible without our donors and volunteers. There are lots of ways you can get more involved, from volunteering as a mentor, asking your company to sponsor, donating items, or supporting us financially. To learn more, visit our website or contact us.
