June 2019 Newsletter

This month was an exciting one, as we launched two new volunteer-led programs in partnership with Olympia's Pear Blossom Place, a shelter and support for homeless families and children. Each Monday, residents will have the opportunity to express themselves through art in our new "Art with Mother Nature" program (seen above). On Thursdays, music will ring throughout the halls as our youth learn about music theory and try their hand at the piano, violin, and cello.

Developing these programs has been in the works for months, and we are thrilled to be able to finally announce their start. Music plays a huge role in the lives of homeless youth, and by providing a creative outlet for these young minds to express themselves, we hope they are able to feel inspired, empowered, and seen.

Meet Ann ~

Ann began volunteering with StandUp For Kids in April of 2019, and has become a wonderfully compassionate, and dependable member of our volunteer family. You can find her involved in our new music program at Pear Blossom, on the streets connecting with our youth, and creating positive experiences.

"StandUp For Kids has given me the opportunity to meet and learn about our homeless neighbors. I also get to hang out with the amazing people who volunteer! It's a great experience".

We are so thankful to have Ann on the team. Her warm approach to outreach and huge heart have provided support and love to both our homeless youth and volunteers. Thank you for everything you do Ann!

We are delighted to share that StandUp For Kids - Thurston County has been chosen by the Junior League of Olympia (JLO) to receive a financial grant. JLO is an organization of women dedicated to improving the community with a focus on the prevention of child abuse and neglect. They have generously provided $1000 to support our chapter, and conduct a supply drive for survival equipment, and we could not be more grateful!

Each year, this wonderful organization selects a number of Community Organizations to support whose missions align with their own focus. Previous grants have aided in funding support groups for sexually abused children, back to school clothes, and classroom remodels. A big thank you from the StandUp For Kids - Thurston County team!

We have so many great things going on that wouldn’t be possible without our donors and volunteers. There are lots of ways you can get more involved, from volunteering as a mentor, asking your company to sponsor, donating items, or supporting us financially.
